Secondary School Teacher Training Courses
Interested in training to become a Secondary Teacher? (age range 11-16/19) - Gain a PGCE and QTS (Qualified Teacher Status).
In School Training
Our secondary trainees are based in their first school placement undertaking classroom practice school for 5 days a week. (Monday-Friday). Trainees typically have a long placement in the Autumn and Summer term with the same class and school-based mentor throughout this placement. During the Spring term, trainees experience a shorter school placement; this will typically be a contrasting placement in terms of school size or demographic or behaviour policy etc. All our trainees are placed within our fantastic partner schools both in and out of the Severn Academies Educational Trust.
Centre Based Training

Expert Colleagues
We work closely with nationally identified subject specific experts and Trust Subject Leads, who deliver subject specific training in manageable sessions throughout the training programme. We have linked subject specific focus with key areas such as developing pupils’ subject specific skills, deeper questioning, adaptive teaching, effective examination preparation and more.
PGCE
We encourage and promote the importance of working towards and gaining a PGCE. We are proud of our connections with Birmingham City University in this regard. Over the course of the training programme you will undertake three assignments worth 20 masters level credits each; upon successful completion of the course you will gain 60 PGCE masters level credits. Whilst the university is responsible for delivering and accrediting the Post Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE), we work closely with the university to ensure trainees are being provided with the best possible sessions and support so that the information provided can be transferred into their own classroom practice. PGCE sessions are delivered at Stourport on Severn or from the comfort of your own home.
As a member of the University, the trainee will also be entitled to access their resources, such as the library, trainee services and student benefits! The university fully supports trainees by providing input on academic research and writing to help with completing an assignment at the end of each module.
